Lucie Hager, MAT, MSW, RSW
Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist
Why Therapy?
Life can be incredibly difficult. Therapy can help us get through difficult times by feeling emotionally supported, learning new or more helpful coping skills, gaining insight into challenging relationships and building better connections, increasing our self-understanding and self-compassion, identifying unhelpful thinking patterns that get in the way of feeling or performing at our best and learning to live our lives with greater meaning.
My approach to therapy
Everyone is unique and comes to therapy with varying concerns and priorities. I will work with you to find the most helpful approach so you receive the most benefit from our time together. My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) which all begin with establishing a strong working relationship based on trust, caring and respect.
Areas of Practice
I have experience working with individuals coping with anxiety, stress, depression, OCD, phobias, eating disorders, relationship concerns, family issues, parenting challenges and general existential life questions and concerns.
I also specialize in hoarding disorder as well as BFRBs - trichotillomania and dermatillomania.
About Me
I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Wellesley College, a Master of Teaching from the University of San Francisco and a Master of Social Work from the University of Windsor. I live in Toronto with my family. I am an avid runner, knitter, singer and reluctant, but earnest meditator.

Psychotherapy with a registered social worker with a masters in social work is covered by most private health insurance plans although it is not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Payment is expected at the end of each session and can be sent by e-transfer to my email address: luciehager1@gmail.com. I will provide you with a receipt with my Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) registration number and you will submit it to your insurance for reimbursement.
Teletherapy
What is Teletherapy?
Teletherapy is the use of phone or video to conduct a psychotherapy session. You can use your phone, computer or tablet from anywhere in Ontario. (I am unable to work with clients outside the province.)
What are the advantages of online therapy?
Teletherapy with a psychotherapist is covered by insurance in the same way as in-person sessions
Sessions can be from anywhere you can find a private space at home or work. I often see clients from their cars (parked of course!)
Save the travel time necessary for in-person sessions
Online therapy is just as effective as in-person and often much more convenient
A video about my involvement in group work supporting people living with hoarding disorder.
A podcast interview with me on meditation and the brain.
A CBC News segment about my work with individuals living with hoarding concerns during the pandemic.
Thank you for visiting! I hope we get the opportunity to work together.
